The idea of HPSA Acumen began in 1997 when Marijka E. Eeuwes, president and founder of HPSA Acumen, was a hospital planner and completing her first HPSA for St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, PA. It was further reinforced while working as a planner at Kaleida Health in Buffalo, NY. It was apparent to her that hospitals across the U.S. would need help with the application process due to the size and complexity of these projects.

A unique balance of efficient data management, knowledge and understanding of government guidelines, and accuracy of acquiring physician data has given us an edge in the field.  Attention to detail has proven paramount to our success.  Our firm has recently expanded to include:

  • CHNAs (Community Health Needs Assessments) that reveal the real health problems and not the imagined. The findings are delivered in a creative presentation that may be used by the community to create programs for Healthy Lifestyle changes.
  • MUA (Medically Underserved Areas) designations.
  • HPSA Benefit Support services to help clients obtain
the benefits of a HPSA designation.
  • Our studies evaluate all current services in the healthcare system
and assess the services that may be missing
in order to support the Medical Home Model.
  • Studies to assess shortages in the primary care and specialist markets.
  • Evidence based assessments to evaluate where the gaps are in the healthcare delivery system.
